The past two months has been a great time for Sharon’s Place and our growing number of regular friends.

Donors have continued to be wonderfully generous in the wake of our very successful fund-raising through East Texas Giving Day. Our first art class was a huge success, with a total of 24 friends taking part under the superb guidance of artist Jason McKay of DIY Lounge in Edom.

We have had two recreation sessions so far, and our friends have had a lot of fun with physical activities and games. The number of friends participating doubled from the first session to the second, and more are signing up for future sessions. We have more recreation sessions scheduled this month and in August, and another art class both this month and in August. We also have our Movie Day on July 18, and the number of people signing up for that is more than we ever imagined.

Kristine has spoken to the Canton Lions Club and the Canton Rotary Club, getting a warm reception. She and Kevin also spoke at Canton Bible Church, talking not just about what Sharon’s Place does and why, but also how Christ is at the center of it. Kristine is also speaking to two local church’s women’s group in the next month.

We’ve also spent quality time with the men of the Andrews Center home in Canton, with a cookout, games, and their own art class.

It has been a huge joy to get to know all of our friends better, and we would welcome volunteers to help us as these art and recreation classes continue to grow. It’s not hard work, and all our volunteers have truly been enriched by the experience, as our friends are warm and friendly people who treasure the interaction we have with them.
